Troy Bolton:Troy Bolton je kapitánom basketbalového týmu Wildcats a je jedným z najpopulárnejších študentov na škole. Spoluhráči sa na nho spoliehaju a dievčatá po nom vrhajú zamilované pohlady. Gabriella Montez:Kvoli maminej praci menila Gabriella Montezova školu skoro každý rok. Lenže keď nastúpila na East High a pocítila rodinnú atmosféru v triede, zatúžila v škole zostať oveľa dlhšie než jeden krátky školský rok. Gabriella nemohla uveriť,že sa dostala na školu, na ktorú chodí aj Troy Bolton.Strašne rada by si s ním ešte raz zaspievala.V predchádzajúcej škole hovorili spolužiaci Gabrielle ,,Divná matematička", ale nastupom na East High verila že sa to zmení. Keď sa o jej tajomstve dozvedela Sharpay Evansová, nelenila ani sekudnu a každému ho prezradila.Gabriella v Troyovi prebudila lásku k hudbe a odvahu venovať sa novej záľube.Gabriella má schopnosť spájať ľudí, ktorí pred tým videli len to, čo ich rozdeľuje...

Sharpay Evansová:Sharpay Evansová je nesporne kráľovnou East High. Bola hviezdou už v sedemnástich školskych predstaveniach a nie je zvyknutá na konkurenciu. Sharpay je presvedčená, že na škole môže byť len jedna hviezda, a tou je ONA! Sharpayiným tanečným partnerom je jej brat-dvojča Ryan. Spolieha sa na jeho pomoc vždy, keď chce nieo dosiahnuť. Keď je Sharpay na scéne, musí mať len to najlepšie-kostými,choreografiu no najmä pesničku.Každé dievča potrebuje kamaráta. Pre Sharpay je ním jej rozkošný malí psík Waffles.Zeke Baylor miluje Sharpay a dúfa, že raz aj ona sa oňho bude zaujímať.

Ryan Evans:Ryan Evans, rovnako ako jeho sestra-dvojča Sharpay, sa narodil pre javisko a spočiatku nebol nadšený z konkurencie Gabrielly a Troya. Veľmi rýchlo však zistil, že je oveľa zábavnejšie s Wildcats spolupracovať, než s nimi bojovať. Ryan je veľmi tvorivý a vymýšľa najrôznejšie výstupy a choreografie pre seba i pre Sharpay. Čoskoro však svoj talent využije aj na spoluprácu s Kelsi a Wildcats.Sharpay je ockov miláčik a Rayn zasa mamin. Rád s ňou chdí cvičiť jógu.

Chad Danforth:Chad Danforth žije športom, teda vlastne basketbalom.Nedokáže pochopiť, prečo Troy stále otravuje s tým dramatickým krúžkom. Keď si uvedomí, že to Troy so spevom myslí vážnne,urobí všetko preto, aby kamaráta podporil. Chad bol s Troyovým najlepším kamarátom už v škôlke. Sú si ako blízky ako bratia, to znamená že sa občas aj pohádajú, ale vždy sa zase dajú do kopy. Keď Troy objavil svoj dramatický talent, Chad si našiel nových kamarátov medzi nimi aj bifľošku Taylor McKessieovú.

Taylor Mckessieová:Taylor McKessieová je rodená jednotkárka. Je šéfkou školského vedeckého krúžku,členkou školského desaťbojarského tímu a predsedníčkou triedy. Taylor si myslela, že šport a dramatické umenia sú stratou času, ale odkedy sa začala stretávať s Wildcats si uvedomila, že nielen úspechy v škole sú dôležité. Taylor bývala taká bifľoška, že sa dokonca naučila naspamäť jedálny lístok v školskej jedálni. Počas letných prázdnin si Taylor vyskúšala svoj organizační talent ako koordinátorka aktivit v Lava Springs.Taylor je spoľahlivá, pokojná a vždy má všetko pod kontrolou, Je super praktická a má obrovský organizačný talent, Je vždy tam, kde ju kamaráti potrebujú.

Taylorina staršia sestra vypracovala 10 pravidiel správania sa mladého muža ktoré Taylor ukázala Gabrielle.
Kelsie Nielsenová:Kelsi Nielsenová je talentovaná klaviristka a skladateľka. Je hamblivá a tichá,ale mali by ste ju vidieť, keď začne hrať na klavíri. A keď jej hudobné dielo ,,Twinkle Towne" vybrali ako jesenný muzikál pre East High, otvoril sa pre ňu úplne nový svet. Kelsi má hlavu plnú hudby.Trávi väčšinu času skladaním nových pesničiek a sníva o tom , že sa jej podarí študovať hudbu na Juilliard School v New Yorku. Kelsi je seriózna a berie hudbu vážne ale rada chodí aj na večierky a vie sa na nich poriadne odviazať.
